The Iraq Museum

At the beginning of the Gulf War in 2003, the Iraq Museum was looted and many of its treasures were stolen, some have never been found while others were vandalised or broken. The Warka Vase is one such artefact. Made of alabaster it was found in the ancient city of Uruk and is thought to date to 3000 BCE. When returned by the looters it was broken into 14 pieces. Our Iraq Museum collection was filmed, in the Sumerian hall, just before war broke out and these may be the last videos of these artefacts before the looting and destruction began.
